Autopsy Confirms Murder in Barve Case: Youth Died of Asphyxiation

Ambede-Nagargao, Goa: The death of 24-year-old Shravan Devidas Barve, who was found dead near his home in Ambede-Nagargao, Sattari, on Tuesday morning, has now been confirmed as a murder. The postmortem report, released on Wednesday, revealed that Shravan died due to asphyxiation caused by forceful compression of the neck.

Shravan's body was discovered by locals around 9:00 AM on Tuesday, lying approximately 200 meters from the Hanuman temple in the village. Initial circumstances surrounding his death were deemed suspicious, prompting a police investigation.

According to family members, on Monday night, Shravan's parents and brother had gone to their other house in Honda. Shravan had reportedly stayed back to watch an IPL cricket match at a friend's residence and was expected to return home later. His father, Devidas Barve, stated that he had spoken to Shravan over the phone around 9:00 PM on Monday.

Upon returning home the following morning, the family was met with the horrific discovery of Shravan's body near their gate. They also found the house door open, and Shravan's mobile phone was inside.

The autopsy findings have solidified the family's suspicion of foul play. Shravan's brother, Uday Barve, demanded a swift and thorough investigation into the case, urging authorities to identify and punish the culprits severely. He expressed the family's shock and stated that they could not think of anyone who would have had any animosity towards Shravan.

North Goa Superintendent of Police, Akshat Kaushal, confirmed that a special police team has been formed to investigate the murder. The Valpoi police have seized Shravan's mobile phone to analyze call records after 11:00 PM on Monday night, hoping to gather crucial leads.

The news of Shravan's murder has sent shockwaves through the tight-knit community of Ambede-Nagargao. Neighbors and friends attended his last rites, which were conducted on Wednesday evening, expressing their grief and demanding justice for the young man.

Local AAP (Aam Aadmi Party) member Valmiki Naik was present with the bereaved family and called the incident a "big failure" of law and order, stressing the immense stress and insecurity it has caused the family and the citizens of Goa.

As of Thursday evening, no arrests have been made in connection with the murder. The police investigation is ongoing, with authorities exploring all possible angles to bring the perpetrator(s) to justice.
